About the Event
// FOLK //
Behind this project name in the plural, only one man, Frédéric Laval, 28-year-old Bordeaux native and songwriter now in exile in Brussels.
The Belgian Capital is for him the perfect breeding ground for introspection, for taking a necessary and beneficial distance from his hectic daily life and from a society that is constantly in panic. He observes all this and translates his emotions into sounds, metaphors, little stories tinged with folk melodies that are necessarily a little melancholic.
Modesty in the voice, sensitivity in the writing and behind a raw, mostly acoustic guitar, layers of electronica arrangements sprinkled over everything from his home studio in Brussels.
He gathered his compositions in an album entitled « Old Loved Ones » released in early 2020, a small collection of nine titles as disarming of beauty as luminous of hope, like his first single ‘Poems from Beirut’ which tells the story of story of a separation between a mother and her son and the correspondence they could have to keep hope and courage in the future. A song about the conditions of women written last year, but which takes even longer meaning in view of the recent drama experienced by the Lebanese city recently.
Songs with timeless themes, but which echo this funny period we are going through. « Old Loved Ones » is a cry of love to those old people who don’t take enough time to see, head in the handlebars and caught up in our daily productivity. An awareness of an ambient mess and putting real priorities back at the center. A lesson in life through songs of tender love à la Sufjan Stevens or Angelo De Augustine.
